Blog 18: Blogging

June 30, 2009

Since the beginning of the term, I wasn’t looking forward to blogging at all. I thought that it would be some pointless activity that I would have to bs just to make a grade. But, I have thoroughly been enjoying it lately. Although some of the topics that we’ve received haven’t been the easiest to write about, I have tried to take them on with delight and get them done in a well-made manner.

Now, after having blogged 17 times, I have taken a new side to it. Earlier, before I had been blogging, I had just read my girlfriends’ blogs and thought that those were pretty cool, but never tried it myself. I figured that they were mostly just girly things to do, but have come to the realization that they are not. Blogs are not only good for you because you get to practice your writing/typing, but also, they seem to be a good stress reliever. Rather than relieve your stress by yelling or talking to someone about it, you can leave all your emotions on the paper so that others may read it and figure out the “inner” you.

I have always enjoyed writing, and this just brings out another side of me. Some of these topics were so easy to write about, like creativity and the soundtrack of our life. It’s easy to write about things that we like, and if other people are like me, then it’s something that can easily be enjoyed. I’m not sure if I will continue to blog after this class, but I’m glad that we were forced to do this. Blogging is a good exercise and I hope that other people enjoyed it as much as me.

Blog 17: “Sing, sing a song…”

June 30, 2009

I’m not going to lie, I am quite a creative and spontaneous person. I like to think that I have a lot of creativity in what I do, and I usually don’t mind doing it at all. Since I was young, I would go to school and whenever the teacher asked us to draw a picture of something, I would be more than happy to whip out a sheet of paper and sketch what I want. All through middle school and high school I have been taking art classes and loving every one of them. Drawing, painting, and sculpting have always been a good stress reliever and something easy to do. Although, lately I haven’t really been getting in touch with my inner creative artist. I have been too caught up with school and being a bum on my computer. Something that I could start to do was to pull out my sketchbook everyday and maybe jot down a drawing once a day. I think that not only would it help myself, but it would get me prepared for if I were to take an art class during college this fall.

Another creative side of me is that I really enjoy dancing. I wasn’t really much of a dancer in middle school, but once I went to high school and went to my first homecoming dance, I have loved it ever since. Although I may not be the best one at it, I really enjoy going out to the dance floor amongst friends and getting my dance on. The only thing that I can thing of that would help bring more of that out of me was dancing each night. A few months ago, I used to go into my kitchen with socks on, clear out the floor, and blare my techno music as I danced to it the only way how, but I don’t want to show you my youtube link : ) .

Blog 16: Stress relief

June 30, 2009

Stress is like a really bad joke, you never know when it’s coming, and most people just don’t know how to deal with it. Stress really can happen when you truly unexpect it, and it’s usually not at the best time in your life either. For most people, it does come whenever you start to get a lot of work piled onto you that you feel overcome by, or because you’re driving somewhere and you’re in a rush, but it’s one of those days where everybody tends to pull in front of you.

I’m not going to try to lie to you and tell you that I’m the best person in the world that deals with my stress, because I’m far from it, but through me and some simple instructions that I may give you, you could find it easier to deal with your stress.

Tip #1. Take a Drive

If you’re having a bad day, and you just want to be alone, then go hop in your car, roll down those windows, and just take a nice scenic route throughout Texas that you know of.

Tip #2. Music

Music is probably one of the most popular ways that people use to deal with stress; I would know, it’s my favorite way. If you do not feel like using gas money and driving, then take some audio player and sit somewhere and listen to your favorite band. Also, a good stress reliever, whether you’re good at it or not, sing along with the music. Singing has been known to relieve stress, and half the time, it feels good to sing as loud as you want, or as soft as you want, provided nobody’s listening to criticize you.

Tip #3 Friends & Games

If neither of the first two satisfy you’re stress, try this: call your best friend, and try to see if you can hang out with them and talk about it. Most people can take a lot of stress out if they find someone that is willing to let them vent (I’ve been a vent for a lot of people). If you don’t want to talk about it, just see if you can hang out with them and maybe play a game that you’re good at. Doing something that’s easy and you’re good at will help boost your self-confidence and probably make you feel better.

So, if you follow my 3 tip process, you may be able to deal with your stress easier than you think.

Blog 15: Assessing Ourselves

June 29, 2009

Since the beginning of this course, I didn’t really have any expectations. Even still, I don’t really have any expectations for me in this class, other than that I should pass it with higher than a “C”. So far, I think that I am doing pretty well, and I don’t see any reason why I would fail this class. I’m not saying that it is easy or anything, cause I am surprised at myself for how well I am doing, but I am sure that English 1302 is a lot tougher. I did not think of anything that I wanted to accomplish through this course, other than the fact that I should become more familiar with research papers, how to write and organize them into a decently written paper. I have never really been outstanding at english, but I have definitely been good enough at it to pass all of my class. I suppose that you could say that I have come here and completed what I set out to accomplish in the first place. I have become more well-known about research papers, and I have figured out new tactics and strategies in order to write them. I now feel more confident in myself and what resides in my future. I believe that now that I have taken this class and continued my studies in English, I will be able to do better in future English classes which I will need whenever I attend the University of New Mexico in this coming fall.

Blog 14: Enlarging Your World

June 29, 2009

For this post, we were told to read a blog that we found on the internet. I may have cheated, but I re-read my girlfriend’s blog. I really like the blog that she posted, and it just reminds me of our lives and everybody else in general. The blog that she wrote is about Proverbs 16:9, which states “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” This bible verse is probably one of my favorite because it is so true. She wrote about how she wanted to go off to college this year and that she’s tired of being home, but her parents aren’t letting her because she needs to save more money and be more prepared, and that’s kind of the same way with me. Before January, I was ready to go off to the Navy as enlisted and become a nuclear engineer that way, but instead, God blessed me with this four year scholarship that will cover all my time, where I get to train and do whatever I want. So now, I will have to follow the path that he has made for me, and try to listen to his word and do what he tells.I can definitely relate to my girlfriend, and only try to do as well as she does. She is a very strong faithful person, and I hope that with her in my life, I will be able to do the same and be like her, able to listen to the Lord’s word, spread his love, and follow him.

Blog 13: Connecting

June 29, 2009

I read a blog about somebody and what they wanted to do when they grew up. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I started to read it anyways. This was a pretty interesting blog by the individual, and it does seem like he would want to be a spy when he grows up. I can relate to this blog, because what kind of boy doesn’t watch all the James Bond movies growing up and doesn’t think that they don’t want to do this whenever they grow up. That was also something that I would have wanted to do. I think that I could become a friend to this guy and we could definitely have some intense conversations about all the cool gadgets and things that happen during most James Bond movies. Also apart from that, who wouldn’t want to be a spy with some really sweet accent? I’m not sure that I would want a British accent but I would definitely not mind having a New Zealand, Scottish, Irish, or other awesome accent. I do think that me and this person could spend quite a lot of time together talking about all the great things that come along with being a spy. Not only that, but we could also talk about the cool agency that you get to work too, the cars that you get to drive, the gadgets that you get to practice and fool around with, and all the other random beneficials that you get. This guy and I could definitely relate.

Blog 12: Great Films

June 29, 2009

Honestly, I didn’t watch this movie, so I really have nothing to write about. Rather than continue to keep writing aimlessly in an attempt to write 250 words that will have no effect on my grade, I’m going to go onto my next blog.

Blog 11: Soundtrack of my Life

June 25, 2009

Opening Credit: City Hall – Tenacious D. The first time I heard Tenacious D was riding with my sister in the car. They have a very funny array of songs that are very catchy and easy to laugh at while singing along.

Waking Up: Different – Pendulum. My best friend Christian introduced me to Pendulum. The album that he had me download seems to be a very good one, it’s a good amount of songs that allow you to get pumped before something.

First Day of School: You’re Gonna go far, Kid – Offspring. I heard this on the radio one day and knew that I had to go home and download it. It’s a good catchy song that’s easy to sing along to, as well as rock out to.

Falling in Love: Through the Fire & Flames – Dragonforce. The first time I ever heard this song was playing Guitar Hero with my friend. It’s the hardest song in the game and I downloaded it to try and get the rhythm and sounds right.

Fight Song: I’m Russian – Teddybeer & Max Mafia. This techno song is one of the many that I downloaded before I went on my spring break to Colorado. It’s got a sweet tune and I can easily listen to it.

Breaking Up: Traffic – DJ Tiesto. DJ Tiesto is one of the most well known DJ’s in the world, and this is one of his classics.

Prom: Sidewinder – Avenged Sevenfold. I’m not sure I’ve heard this song before; it was a song that I downloaded when I was going on a downloading spree for my new iPod.

Life: Don’t Get Back – DJ Isaac. This song has a very good climax that’s easy for me to dance to whenever I feel like it.

Mental Breakdown: Best of Both Worlds – Project One. This is another of my many techno songs that I enjoy listening and dancing to.

Driving: Inside Out – Yellowcard. Yellowcard is one of my favorite bands to listen to while driving. Coming home from spring break, I listened to it for 2 hours straight driving through Kansas. I’ve been listening to them since i was 14.

Flashback: Forgotten Faces – Avenged Sevenfold. Another Avenged Sevenfold song that I haven’t heard but I have it just in case.

Wedding: Wave of Popular Feeling – Three Days Grace. This band is easy to listen to, they’ve come out with a lot of good songs and this is just one of them.

Birth of Child: Holy Diver – Killswitch Engage. This band is a heavy metal band, but I love listening to them when I get angry at something or need to relieve stress. This song (a remake) is one of their best.

Final Battle: We Are the Waccos – Basshunter. Basshunter is a popular Swedish DJ that has a lot of good catchy songs that most people know.

Death Scene: Brain Crackin – Showtek. Haha good song title for this one. This is one of my favorite songs by Showtek that I love listening to.

Funeral Song: Eternal Rest – Avenged Sevenfold. Funny title for this topic. This is another good song by Avenged Sevenfold.

End Credits: One Year Six Months – Yellowcard. This is the last song of my favorite Yellowcard album.

Blog 10: Cleaning House

June 22, 2009

A few months ago, my mom asked me to clean out my room before I went off for the navy, so I followed her instructions. I cleaned out the shelves above my desk and went through quite a lot of stuff in about an hour. I started from the top shelf, which included deer horns, from when I went through the deer reserve behind my neighbor’s house. It also included some random maps and trophies from my previous soccer seasons that I went through when I was a lot younger. After going through all that, I proceeded to my second shelf, which included quite a lot of intellectual stuff. It mostly contained all the random books of my house, both mine and ones that we didn’t have room for otherwise. I went through all my harry potter books, remembering all the nights that I used to go through staying up way too late just reading the same book over and over again. On the bottom shelf, was all the other random stuff that I still have in my room only because I don’t feel like throwing it away. The bottom shelf included things like: used up pens and pencils from grade school, playing cards (not a full deck, becuase I throw cards when I’m bored), gaming cards (cause that was the “in” thing when you were younger, pokemon), a board of quarters from all the different states, and a lot of other pointless stuff.

I enjoy going through old stuff sometimes, it brings back a lot of good and bad memories that we’ve experienced.

Blog 9: When I grow up

June 22, 2009

Since I was just a little boy, and still up until now, there has been only one thing that truly comes to mind about everything, money! Although I am a really bad person with it, money has always been something that I love to have, and wanted more of. Since I was little, the only thing that I have wanted to do was have a job that makes the most money. When I was six years old or so, my parents gave me a really awesome gift, a picture of money. Everytime before I went to bed, I looked at that picture and just thought about what I would do with all of it. My ambitions have not changed, and I don’t really think that they will anytime soon. Right now my life is on a plan so that I will go through a process and when I finish, I will be in a very good position to be making that kind of money. I am going to school this fall, and after four years, I will graduate from school with a bachelor’s degree in Nuclear engineering, and I will be serving in the United States Navy as a rank 1 officer. From there, my rank will only go up, and I have been told that within a few years after college, I will be making nearly six digits. So right now, I am really excited to fulfill my ambition and start making the money that I have dreamed about for a long time.
